TSD Superintendent Addresses TikTok “Shoot Up Your School Day” Threat
Tahoma School District Superintendent Mike Hanson sent a letter to parents today to address concerns over a TikTok trend encouraging a national Shoot Up Your School Day.
Dear Tahoma Family,
The district is aware of a TikTok trend that refers to a threat to school safety “for every school in the USA, even elementary,” on Friday, December 17.
This is part of a national trend and did not originate in our school district. We have heard reports from other districts that the same post is circulating in their schools, and we have no reason to believe that our students, staff and visitors are at risk. We have coordinated with Maple Valley Police Dept. and the King Co. Sheriff’s Office who will provide an increased law enforcement presence on our campuses Friday as an added precaution.
If you see something, you are always encouraged to say something. If you or your child become aware of any potential threat to our schools, please notify a school staff member immediately.
Thank you for your partnership, and we will provide updates to our community if we receive new information.
Mike Hanson, Superintendent
