Navigating the Sexual Health Curriculum: Resources for Tahoma Parents
Within the next few days, the district will begin teaching its sexual health lessons to all students in Grades 4-9. Senate Bill 5395 was passed by the Legislature and voters in 2020, requiring WA public schools to provide comprehensive sexual health education to all students by the end of this school year (2022-2023).

Tahoma Parents would like to thank the School District for its transparency in providing detailed information to families before the lessons begin. Zoom webinars outlining these lessons occurred back in April for Elementary, Middle School, and High School levels. Recordings of these webinars, along with all curriculum materials that will be used are also available for preview on the district site here.
Parents have the option to opt their child out of any and all lessons should they choose.
Tahoma Parents has previewed the webinars and lesson materials for all grades. We commend the district for presenting what we consider to be very tasteful, age appropriate, and fact-based information. Abstinence continued to be encouraged, while no evidence was found of presenting an unhealthy focus on debated topics (including masturbation and gender dysphoria).
As always, we encourage parents to take advantage of the information generously provided by the district to stay informed on what is being presented to their children.
