Tahoma EP&O Levy Likely to Pass After Increased Voter Turnout

The initial day of counting for the Tahoma School District's second EP&O levy election revealed a significant increase in voter turnout, indicating a strong response from the community. The first count showed 9,869 votes, up from the 7,300 counted on the first day of the previous election, signaling a notable increase in community engagement. With the levy currently passing by a margin of 54% to 46%, it seems highly likely that the proposal will be approved.

The approval of the levy means Tahoma's wide array of programs, ranging from athletics to the arts and advanced learning, will continue to receive the funding they need. This is a positive sign that the community values these programs and the opportunities they provide for students.

However, the success of this levy also underscores the ongoing need for responsible financial management within the Tahoma School District. As the community has shown its willingness to invest further into the district with a property tax increase that provides even more funding, it is now up to the district to ensure these funds are managed transparently and effectively. It's crucial for district leadership to maintain open communication with families and consider their input on how levy funds should be spent.

While the passing of the levy is a huge win for the programs that enrich students' educational experiences, the community must remain vigilant in holding the district accountable for proper financial oversight and responsible allocation of resources.
